June is the time of "Hotaru" or fireflies. In Yamaguchi, there are lots of good places to watch them. They usually start flying right after sunset: around 8 p.m. There are several kinds of popular fireflies, but the one that is flying now is called "Genji". A little smaller "Heike" come later: probably in late July if my memory is correct.
